• How we build resilience and well-being

We offer a suite of programmes to increase resilience and well-being, and manage stress. Our unique approach includes working with horses to create powerful and transformational experiences.

Equine facilitated learning allows participants to explore their emotions, and different self-management strategies in a safe environment.  LeadChange combines interactions with horses (on the ground – not horse riding) and non-directive coaching in powerful learning experiences, through which participants expand their self-awareness and communication capabilities.

    A powerful learning experience

Horses sense and respond to subtle cues in our behaviour, particularly those that indicate we are becoming stressed or anxious. Horses provide instant, honest feedback in the moment by their responses. By interacting with horses, participants become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, behaviour, and the connections between them.

As Chartered Psychologists, stress and wellbeing specialists, we take a multi-discipline approach to create a powerful combination of evidence-based approaches, that can be tailored to the specific needs of the organisation and individual.

Participants can explore different ways of managing stress and building resilience to achieve the following outcomes:

    • Build self-awareness of the signs and symptoms of stress
    • Develop solution-focused coping skills
    • Learn to recognise and manage emotions
    • Challenge and minimise stressful thoughts
    • Build positive beliefs, self-confidence and esteem

Why working with horses to manage stress and increase resilience is so unique

Trust and connection. Horses are emotionally sensitive, and this creates a safe environment where people can be vulnerable.  Being present with horses allows participants to reconnect with themselves, the horses and others. Re-establishing connections and building relationships this way is particularly powerful for those off work due to stress

Real-play, not role-play. When we role-play it can be hard to behave authentically in what is clearly not a ‘real-life’ situation. Horses are authentic beings and interacting with them is for real. This makes a safe space to explore and change thinking and behaviour patterns with immediate impact.

Authenticity. Participants find that when they connect with their authentic selves and communicate from that place, horses are amazingly responsive. When the (human’s) thinking, judging brain comes into play, horses respond by disengaging from the interaction.

Instant, honest, non-judgmental feedback. Horses are imposing creatures – weighing around half a ton. Their size and physical presence seems to magnify the feedback they give. Honest feedback without judgement is a rare commodity, and one which brings deep insight to workshop participants.

No agenda. People often run agendas around and for others, particularly in the workplace. Horses do not ask us to change – but they do let us know very clearly whether what we are doing with them is effective in achieving what we want. Participants receive feedback in way that creates personal accountability.

    • Location: We are geographically flexible so can run at locations, across the UK and internationally, which are convenient for our clients. We have a network of horses and venues all of which are carefully selected to adhere to our high standards from both a client experience and horse care perspective.
    • Weather: The sessions are a mix of classroom sessions and working with the horses in an indoor riding arena so we are not affected by weather conditions
    • Numbers: To ensure the best possible experience the equine sessions are limited to groups of up to 7 participants per facilitator / horse. We can have several facilitators running groups simultaneously so can work with large numbers of participants.
